You’re warmly invited to host your workshop in our spacious workshop area, featuring a professional sound system and a comfortable dance floor.

Our location is in Amsterdam, Stadsdeel West, near train station Sloterdijk.
The Temple of Happiness is housed in a top location within the Broedplaats “Het Salon”.

We offer 154 m² of dedicated space, including a 135 m² dance and workshop room with a clean and beautiful dance floor. Our bright and welcoming space on the first floor is beautifully designed. It is equipped with a professional sound system and adjustable lighting, allowing for both bright and intimate atmospheres perfect for workshops, rehearsals, lessons, or dance evenings.

The kitchen is conveniently located adjacent to the hall and is accessible through a charming, arched doorway. It is a private kitchen, not shared with others, and fully equipped with all conveniences, including an oven, refrigerator, and ample workspace, ideal for preparing tea, snacks, or other refreshments.

Important Note: We do not rent out the space for parties, birthday celebrations, or similar events.

Bags and personal items can be stored in the adjacent, separate cloakroom to keep the main hall tidy and organized. Our staff-only storage area is reserved for workshop essentials such as mats, cushions, and mattresses, ensuring everything is easily accessible for your event.

For your (yoga, session, or meditation) music, you can connect to our professional sound system.

Rental Rates & Conditions – Temple of Happiness

General Information

The following rental rates apply to individuals and small businesses with an annual turnover of up to €40,000.
For companies with higher revenue, we are happy to provide a customized quote.

If you are renting the Temple of Happiness on a weekly or regular basis – for example for your ongoing classes, trainings, or community gatherings – please contact us for a special long-term rate.
Regular renters help us keep the Temple alive and vibrant, and we are happy to support your commitment with a special community rate.

The Temple of Happiness (154 m²) can be rented only in fixed daypart segments.
Rates below are per time slot (Morning, Afternoon, or Evening) and include setup, cleaning, and teardown.
Please take this into account when planning your event.


Fixed Time Slots

• Morning: 09:00 – 13:00
• Afternoon: 13:30 – 17:30
• Evening: 18:00 – 22:00

(Additional hourly rental is available after 22:00, up to 3 hours maximum.)

Groups with 20 participants or fewer (excluding teachers and team) receive a discount on the standard rates:

Mandatory Surcharge for Specific Activities

To protect the fabrics, cushions and delicate floor of the Temple, certain activities require a mandatory €50 surcharge per booking:

Massage workshops using oil — €50 per booking
Potluck dinners or shared meals — €50 per booking

This surcharge covers the extra laundry (massage sheets and red covers), professional floor cleaning and additional reset time that cannot be performed by renters.

➡️ This surcharge is not an alternative to the basic cleaning renters are expected to do themselves.
It is added solely because of the extra professional work required after these activities.


Deposit & Care

A refundable €80 deposit (equal to the basic cleaning fee) is required for every booking.
This amount will be fully refunded after your event if the following conditions are met:

• The Temple of Happiness is left clean and tidy according to the cleaning protocol.
• The tag is returned (unless you have a leased tag).
• You have respected your reserved time slot — dayparts are fixed as shown on the website.
• The group size corresponds with the agreed number for your rental rate.

Please note:
• Loss of a tag or key results in a €50 replacement charge.
Massage without protective sheets, or using oil without prior notice, results in loss of the full deposit.
• Wet towels, food or waste left behind may also result in a partial or full deduction of the deposit.

This policy keeps the Temple of Happiness fresh, clean and welcoming for everyone who follows.


How to book a space:

If you find our space suitable and your activity aligns with our values (see rental conditions), you can easily book the Temple of happiness directly.

To book your desired date and time for your event, simply use the button at this page. You’ll first receive an email with a login code for website access, and you will agree to the login cookies and GDPR conditions.

In the login you find in your email, you will then be directed to a calendar where you can select one or multiple dates.

You can upload your event flyer and include your Hipsy or Facebook event link at this stage or at a later time.

You may modify your reservation dates up until they are approved by the Temple of Happiness administrator. After that, any changes must be made through website management.

Your space is only reserved when you book. We do not provide tentative holds.

Additionally, you can upload your flyer or provide a link to your Facebook or Hipsy event so that your event is featured in our event calendar. This increases visibility and allows us to promote your event through our newsletter.

Don’t forget to upload your event information, as this not only enhances the appeal of the Temple of Happiness but also encourages more visitors to regularly check our event calendar.

Some tips for more bookings later:
1) Keep your last login email. So you can use it again. Saves you time to request new one and the delay there might be with a new email.
2) Other emails like booking email that you receive after your last login email contain also a login link that should work.
3) In your templeofhappiness profile you can add a password. This provides one more way to login.

Once your booking is submitted, you will receive a confirmation notification. From that point on, you are bound by the rental conditions, cleaning protocol, and cancellation policy. Should you cancel your booking, administrative fees of 10 euro per booking will apply. You will receive your invoice either before your event or shortly thereafter.

If you simply want to check the availability of the space, please check current bookings. Do not rely on the events calendar, as some private events are not listed.

You can also arrange a tour of the space, available on Mondays or Thursdays between 10:00 and 17:00, provided the space is not already booked.

We reserve the right to decline any rental request at our discretion, without providing a reason.

Cancellation Policy for Renting Our Space (Temple/ Session Room):

Our cancellation terms are as follows:

1. General Cancellation Procedure

Cancellations must be made by sending an email to: Janine@templeofhappiness.nl. Please include your name, address, company details, event date and title, and the reason for cancellation. Cancellations via social media will not be accepted.

2. Cancellation Terms for Bookings of 1 to 3 Sessions

  • Up to 1 month before the event: Cancellations are free of charge; only administrative fees will apply.
  • Up to 2 weeks before the event: 20% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.
  • Up to 1 week before the event: 30% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.
  • Less than 1 week before the event: 100% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.

3. Cancellation Terms for Bookings of 4 or More Sessions

A. Consecutive Bookings (e.g., a weekend or midweek retreat)

  • Up to 2 months before the event: Cancellations are free of charge; only administrative fees will apply.
  • Up to 1 month before the event: 30% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.
  • Up to 2 weeks before the event: 50% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.
  • Less than 2 weeks before the event: 100% of the total rental fee, including VAT, plus administrative fees will be charged.

B. Spread-Out Bookings (e.g., multiple sessions over several weeks)

For bookings of 4 or more sessions spread over several weeks, the same cancellation terms apply as for bookings of 1 to 3 sessions (see point 2). In this case, each session is considered a separately cancellable event.

4. Cancellations Due to Illness

If the renter or the designated contact person falls seriously ill and the event cannot proceed, the renter may cancel up to 48 hours before the event without charge, upon presentation of a medical certificate. If the cancellation is made less than 48 hours before the event, the standard cancellation policy applies.

5. Special Policy for Returning Renters

Renters who have rented the hall for at least one season for weekly classes are allowed to cancel a maximum of 2 classes or sessions per season free of charge, provided the cancellation is made at least 4 days before the scheduled class. If a cancellation is made less than 3 days before the class, 100% of the class fee is due.

6. Administrative Fees

Administrative fees will always be charged for cancellations, regardless of the notice period or reason for cancellation.

Rental Terms for Our Temple of Happiness

1. Welcome to Our Temple

We are delighted to welcome workshops, courses, dances, or other gatherings that align with the atmosphere and vision of our Temple of Happiness.

2. No Rentals for Parties

Unfortunately, our center is not available for (children’s or birthday) parties, as the flooring is not suitable for such use. 

3. Cleaning Options

  • Self-Cleaning:
    If you choose to clean the space yourself, we expect you to leave it as clean and tidy as you found it. Follow the cleaning protocol instructions. If the space is not left clean, a cleaning fee of €80 will be charged.
  • Professional Cleaning:
    You can also opt for our cleaning service when booking:
    • €40 for events with up to 19 participants.
    • €60 for events with more than 20 participants.

    In this case, we expect you to tidy up by washing and storing any used dishes and returning used materials to their original places. You do not need to mop or clean the toilets.

4. Additional Rental Terms and Rules

  • Keep Hallways Clear:
    Please keep hallways clear of shoes, coats, bags, etc., to ensure fire safety. Coats and clothing should be hung in the cloakroom, and bags should be brought into the studio.
  • No Shoes in the Studios:
    Shoes are not allowed in the studios and must be stored in the cloakroom racks.
  • Use of Fire and Scents:
    Candles, incense, smoking, and open flames are not permitted. Electric tea lights and a scent lamp are available upon request.
  • Respect Other Users:
    Show mutual respect within the building. Any damage or disturbance caused by you or your participants is your responsibility.
  • Liability:
    We are not liable for any personal injury or property damage arising from the use of the space. Please ensure you have adequate insurance coverage, including for your volunteers.
  • Loss of Property:
    We are not responsible for loss or damage to property due to fire, water damage, or other causes.
  • Lost and Found:
    We are not responsible for items left behind. You can pick them up yourself, for we store them in a yellow box in the hallway on the first floor. Items left behind will be donated to charity after two months. We do not send lost items by mail.
  • Key Management:
    You will receive an electronic key that provides access to the building. This key must be immediately returned to the key tin, we show you, right after the event; you are not allowed to take it with you after leaving the space unless you have different appointments and paid 50 euros deposit. You will also receive a separate key for the rented space itself. Losing a key costs €50.
  • Use of the Refrigerator:
    A refrigerator is available in the kitchen. Please label your items with your name and date, and take everything with you after your event.
  • Entering and Exiting the Space on Time:
    Please adhere to the booked times, including preparation and cleaning time. Leave at least half an hour between time slots for the next user.
  • Time Slots:
    • Morning: 9:00 – 13:00
    • Afternoon: 13:30 – 17:30
    • Evening: 18:00 – 22:00
      Additional hours are only available after 22:00 (maximum of 3 hours).

5. Additional Conditions

  • Damage Policy:
    The renter is responsible for any damage caused to the space, equipment, or inventory. Any damage must be reported to the landlord immediately. The cost of repairs or replacements will be charged to the renter.
  • Noise Restrictions:
    To respect other users of the building, noise limits apply:
    • In the Temple space: maximum of 80 decibels (dB).
    • Please ensure your event stays within these limits to avoid causing disturbance.
  • Privacy, Confidentiality, and Dress Code:
    For the privacy of all users:
    • Always keep the door closed during your event to limit noise disturbance.
    • Keep the curtains closed to prevent other users in the building from looking in or inadvertently participating in your gathering.
    • It is not allowed to walk in underwear, revealing clothing, or naked outside the Temple space. We want all building users to feel comfortable and respected.
    • Participants are not allowed to “wander” through the building out of curiosity.
    • Use only the emergency entrance (purple doors, Isolatorweg) for your events and close the door immediately after your event starts, also to avoid noise disturbance for the neighbors at the front. Inform your participants about this entrance in advance and put up a sign at the front entrance instructing them to walk around.
    • Inform your participants about the importance of privacy, confidentiality, and appropriate attire within the space and in shared areas.
  • Restrictions on Use:
    The Temple may not be rented for activities requiring a sex permit. If there are complaints about inappropriate use of the space or violation of this rule afterward, all liability and any legal costs will be passed on to the renter. We reserve the right to terminate the rental agreement immediately if these conditions are violated.

 

Cleaning Protocol – Temple of Happiness

Dear friends,

The Temple of Happiness is a sacred space. Everything here – the floor, the cushions, the tea, the instruments, the fabrics and the altar – is offered in trust and gratitude.
Please honour this by leaving the Temple as you would wish to enter it: clean, cared for, and welcoming to the next group.


At the Beginning

• Use only the entrance door with the turning lock downstairs — not the one with the red handle (that door is for emergency use only).
• Place the door on the hook while people arrive.
• Someone should stay near the door to welcome guests.
• If that person goes upstairs, place a sign with an arrow for latecomers.


Use of the Temple of Happiness

• Always cover mattresses (with a towel, blanket or sheet) for massage, breathwork or any lying practice with bare skin.
• Red mattresses are for sitting with cushions, not for lying down directly.
• Massage workshops with oil must be announced in advance — €50 cleaning costs apply for washing all blankets and covers, and for additional floor cleaning afterwards.
• Please eat and drink preferably behind the arch. Always put cups on tables, not on the floor.
• Potluck events must also be announced in advance — an extra €50 cleaning cost is charged, since food on cushions, blankets or mattresses requires extensive washing afterwards.


Candles, Incense & Altar

• No open flames are allowed anywhere in the Temple.
• Please do not burn candles — not even small ones on the altar.
Electric candles are available and may be used to create atmosphere safely.
• Incense may be burned only on the altar, and all ashes or incense remains must be cleaned up after use.
• Please keep the altar clean, beautiful and free of clutter.


Cleaning & Tidying

• Swiffer the floor with a disposable cloth, remove stains and crumbs.
• Check and freshen the sofas.
• The dishwasher may be used, but please make sure it has finished running before you leave. Do not leave it filled with dirty dishes.
• Wipe counters and tables.
• Hang up wet towels and tea towels — never use them for mopping, and do not throw wet towels or tea towels into the laundry basket.
• Take the trash bag to the container downstairs and place a new bag in the bin.
• Lost & found items: yellow box in the hallway.
• Empty the fridge completely — please don’t leave any food behind in the Temple of Happiness, as it attracts insects and other pests.


Equipment & Safety

• Turn off the four corner speakers (via power strip). Set mixer volume to zero first.
• Unplug the kettle.
• Turn off all lights.
• Close all windows firmly until they click locked — very important.
• Turn off the central heating (CV) before leaving — this is very important.
• Lock the Temple door, including the purple entrance door downstairs.
• If something breaks or doesn’t work, please let me know right away.


If You Are the Last One

• Do a final walk-through.
• Switch off all lights (including downstairs).
• Set the alarm (code: 8484A) — panel is downstairs near the main entrance.


Good to Know

• A blue first aid kit is in the wardrobe behind the red curtains.
• A red fire extinguisher stands at the wardrobe entrance.

Information about the Building – Temple of Happiness

Location

Our Temple of Happiness is since January 2025 located in Het Salon, a creative hub in Amsterdam West where more than 150 artists and entrepreneurs work.

The building is near Station Sloterdijk and exit S102 of the A10 ring road.


Entrance

The entrance for the Temple of Happiness is around the corner on the Isolatorweg, at the purple doors.

Hirers enter the main building via the front entrance using their black access tag.
After entering, they can open the purple doors (emergency exit) to let participants in.


Creative Hub – Het Salon

Het Salon is a vibrant community of creative professionals – artists, designers, coaches, musicians, and cultural collectives.
While you might occasionally hear some background sounds from the building, the Temple itself offers a calm and private atmosphere for workshops, classes, and retreats, because it is located on the first floor with no direct neighboors. 


Accessibility

Please note that the Temple of Happiness is not wheelchair accessible.
There is no elevator, only a staircase to the first floor.
Toilets are located on the ground floor directly under the stairs, and they are kept clean and well maintained.


Accessibility & Parking

The building is easy to reach:
• About a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station (train, tram, metro).
• Approximately a 2-minute drive from Ring A10, exit S102.

Parking is available around the building:
• Free after 19:00 and on Saturdays & Sundays (daytime).
• € 2.90 per hour during paid hours.
